Full details regarding eligibility and the rules governing this Hackathon are available in the Generative AI World Cup Official Rules (the “Official Rules”), available at https://bit.ly/genaiworldcuprules. In the event of any discrepancies between the Official Rules and other Hackathon materials, the Official Rules govern.


• Participants must be part of an organization in a data-related role

Participants must register using their corporate email address; freemail addresses (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) will not be qualified

• To submit, participants must form teams with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people

• Databricks staff, partners, consultants or students are not eligible to enter the competition

Any individual who is employed by a government body, regulatory agency or any institution or company owned or controlled by any government are not eligible to enter the competition.

• Must be 20 years old and above, and currently residing in the following countries or regions:

*Databricks is providing a US$500 additional credit to each eligible team upon request to use on the Databricks platform to enter a submission into the hackathon until supplies last. Exceeding the allocated credit will result in additional charges being incurred. Submission of any entry constitutes agreement to the official rules, available at https://bit.ly/genaiworldcuprules, as a contract between entrant (and each individual member of entrant), the hackathon sponsor, and AngelHack.

Challenge Themes

Theme 1: Build a GenAI app that solves a real-world problem, whether you’re an AI novice or a Python pro, we welcome participants from data organizations to create solutions with AI.

You do not need to be a current Databricks user. For new users who want to use a test-driven environment, we will supply accounts with US$500 for qualifying teams and access to open datasets free of charge to build your GenAI App. You may also use your existing Databricks deployment. (Note: This is the only challenge theme for this hackathon)

Submissions Requirements

New Projects Only: Projects must be created only during the Registration Period. You may not use work started prior to the Registration Period


Project description that explains:

  • The features and functionalities of your project
  • Names and country of residence of all your teammates. Remember only team submissions with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people are eligible.


GitHub Repository:

  • To store all lines of code and commits for your Project.
  • The GitHub repository must show that the Project was built during the Hackathon Submission Period, include an open-source license, and be publicly visible


Demo video:.

  • Record a video (3–5 minutes) demonstrating your application and providing commentary that includes (but isn’t limited to) answers to the following questions:
  • What industry and topic did you choose?
  • Why did you choose this topic?
  • What dataset and model did you use? How did you solve the problem? Please explain the technical details, such as techniques you use — e.g., RAG (retrieval augmented generation).
  • The video should be no longer than five (5) minutes; 
  • Should include footage that shows the project functioning on the device for which it was built;
  • Must be uploaded to and made publicly visible on YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook Video, or Youku, and a link to the video must be provided on the submission form on the Hackathon Website; 
  • Should only contain any third-party data if the Entrant has obtained and holds all necessary permissions to use such data for the purpose of its Submission to this Hackathon; and
  • Must not include third-party trademarks, or copyrighted music or other material or intellectual property rights, unless the Entrant has permission to use such material for the purpose of its Submission to this Hackathon.

Judging Criteria

  • Creativity
  • Is this a new and original idea, or has this been done before? 



  • Business applicability
  • How well does this solve a real business problem for your industry?


  • Data relevance
  • How have you combined relevant and interesting datasets and tools?


  • Thoroughness
  • Is your application easy for the end user to understand? Does it provide relevant and insightful information?


  • Well-architected
  • Can your application/RAG model scale well at a linear cost? Can it accommodate additional features without rewriting most of the code base?

  • USD10,000 Cash per team (to be divided equally among all Eligible Individuals on the team)

  • 2nd Prize:

  • USD2,500 Cash per team (to be divided equally among all Eligible Individuals on the team)

That's not all! The highest scoring Eligible Team from among the three 1st Prize teams will also win the Grand Prize of:

  • Hotel accommodations in San Francisco, CA (for up to 4 members of the team). 
  • Presentation slot at Databricks Data + AI Summit 2025 to present the winning project

Note: Due to Thailand Tax Requirements, if an individual who pays taxes in Thailand wins any monetary prizes from a hackathon, the organisers are required to:

  1. Withhold income tax at 5% the value of the prize;
  2. Submit that amount to the Thai Revenue Department on the winner's behalf.
