This October Coding Challenge opens up new and novice developers to test their web development skills.

Challenge Themes

Each theme has its own challenge statements, and picking one is required for submission. So choose your favourite, and let's get innovating!

Theme 1: Web Development Party!

Test your web development skills in any language! Know Typescript and Javascript? Know Vue or React? Or ever tried other new languages for Web Development such as Gleam and Purescript? Or.. or you want to integrate LLMs to your project?! This October Coding Challenge will test how well you know your tools!

Challenge Statements

  1. Content Sharing Platform

    Build a content sharing platform that adapts content based on user preferences and learning styles. You can integrate LLMs to enhance the experience.

  2. Real-Time Collaboration Platform

    Build a real-time collaboration platform i.e. Etherpad. It can be a code collaboration tool or any collaborative editing project.

  3. Open category 🌟

    Feel like building something that does not fall under the above two challenges? Go crazy with your ideas and build anything! Impress us!

Timeline

Key Dates (Save them on your calendars πŸ“…):


1 Oct - 19 Oct: Register for the Coding Challenge and start hacking!

4 Oct: Submission opens at 1200 (GMT +8)

21 Oct: Submission closes - submit your projects by 1200 hrs (GMT +8)

21 Oct - 25 Oct: Judging period

28 Oct - 31 Oct: Winners announcement. All winners will receive an email notifying them of their win.

Submissions Requirements

One must submit at least a fully working prototype of their project and you will need to submit all of the following submission artefacts.


Submit the link to your GitHub repository. The repository should contain:

  • README. A write-up with no more than 500 words explaining how this tool works and why users should adopt this tool. You must include a video demo showing how your completed product works in the README. It should also contain instructions on how to build, install and run the tool or application, otherwise, you will get a disqualified submission ❌
  • Source Files. These files can be used to be built locally and can be used by anyone. No source files will serve as a disqualified submission ❌


⚠️ Any INCOMPLETE submission will be disqualified.

⚠️ Any PLAGIARISED submission found will be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

1/Innovation & Creativity (10%)

How original is the idea/solution?


2/Usability and User Interface (25%)

How intuitive and user-friendly is the interface for your target audience?


3/Quality of Documentation (25%)

Does the documentation effectively describe what the application does, the problem it solves and how it works?


4/Code Quality and Organization (10%)

Is your code self-documenting? Does it contain code documentation?


5/Functionality and Reliability (30%)

Does the application work as intended? Are errors effectively handled so that it won’t mess up the user experience?

  • 1st Place will get USD$150 reward.
  • 2nd Place will get USD$100 reward.
  • 3rd Place will get USD$80 reward.
  • 4th Place will get USD$50 reward.
  • 5th Place will get USD$20 reward.


ℹ️ Note: If you are submitting a project with a team, the prize reward will be split equally between all members (e.g. if you are joining as a team of 2 members, each member will receive USD$75 from a USD$150 reward).
